  • Housing Resources for Seniors: Michigan - HUD. There are many programs to help seniors with housing needs, including programs to make it easier for you to stay in your home. The resources may help you find information to meet your needs including: Housing counseling agencies with free or low-cost counseling services for buying, renting, defaults, foreclosures, credit issues, and reverse mortgages.
  • MI Choice Waiver Program - State of Michigan: One program run by Michigan Medicaid is the MI Choice Waiver Program. It began in 1992 as the Home and Community Based Services for the Elderly and Disabled (HCBS/ED) waiver program. We now know it as the MI Choice Waiver Program, or simply, "the waiver." Through MI Choice, eligible adults who meet income and asset criteria can receive Medicaid waivers for services such as home care and personal emergency response systems.
  • Independent Living Services for Seniors - State of Michigan: The Senior Blind Program or Independent Living (IL) Program of Michigan's Bureau of Services for Blind Persons is a federal-state partnership providing services to Michigan residents age 55 and older who are visually impaired. Program participants are individuals whose severe visual impairment makes competitive employment extremely difficult.

Medicaid does not cover the cost of a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) directly. It must be covered by a Medicaid Waiver (MI Choice) for those who are eligible.

MI Choice Medicaid Waivers are administered though your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) or other agency such as The Information Center. Tell your case manager you want a PERS system from "Medical Care Alert by American Response Technologies".

MI Health Link will pay for a PERS System, and is also administered by your local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in Michigan regions 1, 4, 7 and 9. Tell your case manager you want a PERS system from "Medical Care Alert by American Response Technologies". Participating insurance companies listed as Independent Care Organizations include:

PACE Programs If you are 55 years of age or older and eligible for nursing home level of care as determined by the State of Michigan, you may qualify for a free medical alert system through a PACE agency. Most participants who have both Medicare and Medicaid pay nothing more for PACE services. PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) can cover many costs, including a Personal Emergency Response System. Medical Care Alert participates with Thome PACE and Huron Valley PACE.

Michigan Auto No-Fault Insurance Michigan Auto No-Fault Insurance will pay for a Personal Emergency Response System from Medical Care Alert.
  • If you've been in an auto accident and have an open case number, ask your Case Manager to submit this intake form along with claim number, insurance company contact, and Primary Care Provider (PCP) authorization to have your PERS system covered by insurance.
